My name is Eric Wordal. I was born and raised in Helena, Montana. I first got involved in photography and ceramics in high school. My sister Lorna and I planned to become professional potters, which she achieved. Around the same time, she started dating a fine art photographer, J.M. Cooper, with whom I became good friends. He mentored me, and I assisted him for a few years before attending the Glen Fishback School of Photography in Sacramento, CA. Glen Fishback was a friend and contemporary of Ansel Adams and was also part of the famous F/64 club. In those days (late seventies), everything revolved around zone systems and darkroom work. After graduation, I went straight into business, opening a photo studio and doing both portrait and commercial photography, and later opening a second studio in Butte, Montana. I have also been very active in professional photography organizations and have won numerous awards. My wife Lisa and I semi-retired about six years ago, and we now spend the winters as snowbirds in Mesquite, which we love. I am now very involved in the Mesquite Photographic Society. I resumed ceramics when we moved here and spend a lot of time working with it. Additionally, I now spend a lot of time writing and performing music.
Thanks very much for reading this!
